19A: Idea Napkin No. 2
Who you are. What your talents are. What your skills and experiences are. Also: what are your aspirations? Specifically regarding your business concept, how do you see this business (if you were to start it) playing a role in your life?
- My name is Logan Sheffield and I am a fourth year accounting major here at UF and I am currently pursuing my Masters in Accounting. After speaking with my friends, I would say that I am passionate, a good communicator, and a good friend. MY aspirations include being happy in life. I think all too often people are more obsessed with money and fame rather than just being happy. This business would play a huge role in my life because it would allow me to develop my strengths and it would let me contribute to something that I am passionate about. The people that reviewed my Idea Napkin 1 says they think it is a good idea and my tactics are right on.
What are you offering to customers? Describe the product or service (in other words, how you'll solve customers' unmet needs).
- I am offering a coffee shop that will employ people with disabilities and allow them to find their place in the community. I will meet the customer's unmet need by giving them another option to spend their time. This coffee shop will help prepare people with disabilities for the real work by providing them with experience and skills to take on the next stage. The people that reviewed my prior assignment said that I need to focus on an age group and a certain sector of people.
Who are you offering it to? Describe, in as much detail as possible, the demographic and psychographic characteristics of your customers. Think especially of this question: what do your customers all have in common?
- I am offering this service to people with disabilities that just got out of high school and are looking on moving forward with the next phase of their lives. I will change the age group from 21-30 in my prior assignment to 18-25. I was given advice that said I need a more narrow range that also included people in the same phase of life. All my customers are eager to spend their time enhancing their skills in the work force. They are also all in need of funding a way to spend their unallocated time. All of these people will also know what it is like to be discriminated against because they were born "differently." This will allow my customers to come together and see the bigger picture for the mission of this coffee shop.
Why do they care? Your solution is only valuable insofar as customers believe its valuable to them. Here, explain why customers will actually pay you money to use your product or service.
- My customers care because it is affecting them directly. This solution will help provide people with disabilities a place to call home and a place to feel welcomed. These people realize that they wouldn't be able to find a job at a larger business so they will recognize the magnitude of this opportunity when it is presented. This opportunity is valuable to the people that know it will help them.
What are your core competencies? What sets you apart from everyone else? Also: what do you have that nobody else has?
- I would say that my core competency stays the same as the first assignment. I believe this to be that my opportunity will excel because I am mixing my business with a mission. This will allow the business to excel because it will help bring the community closer because there is a mission that is bigger than just the community.
In addition to these five elements, please spend a paragraph evaluating whether you believe these elements fit together or whether there are aspects of your business concept that are weaker / out-of-joint with the others.
- I think that all of my elements fit in together because they go hand and hand with one another. I think to have one of my elements leads itself into the next one. I think what keeps the mission alive is how the community will come together to see it excel. I think having an idea that affects people's lives is the way to go, it makes the people be more passionate about the opportunity because of how it affects their lives directly.
Feedback Memo:
- The first piece of feedback that I was told was refining the age group and picking a specific sector to market to. I refined the age group to 18-25 and the market is people that are looking for a job and a way to spend their time.
- They told me that my core competency was spot on and the tactics I am using the further my opportunity seem good. I decided to keep my core competency the same, but I did elaborate more on it.
- I was also told that I should reach out to corporations and get information about their policies with people with disabilities. I didn't see a spot to include this in in this assignment, but I will keep it in mind for the following assignments.
