20A: Growing Your Social Capital

Domain Expert: Who are they, what their background is Maddie, she owns a business that only employs people with disabilities How is this person a "Domain Expert"? She decided to open up a business that only employed people with disabilities because she saw a shortage in jobs for these people. How I found and contacted this person? I found this person because I was talking to my roommate about my opportunity and she told me she thought she knew of someone who did something similar. I reached out to her via Instagram. Nature of Exchange: What they did for me, what is the return expectation... I explained to her my idea and we compared and contrasted our ideas. She told me what has worked for her and what hasn't and how we can continue to improve and work on this opportunity that we have both seen. How will including them enhance my ability to exploit an opportunity? I was able to see how her idea worked and how it could be improved on. This will allow m...

19A: Idea Napkin No. 2

Who you are. What your talents are. What your skills and experiences are. Also: what are your aspirations? Specifically regarding your business concept, how do you see this business (if you were to start it) playing a role in your life? My name is Logan Sheffield and I am a fourth year accounting major here at UF and I am currently pursuing my Masters in Accounting. After speaking with my friends, I would say that I am passionate , a good communicator, and a good friend. MY aspirations include being happy in life. I think all too often people are more obsessed with money and fame rather than just being happy. This business would play a huge role in my life because it would allow me to develop my strengths and it would let me contribute to something that I am passionate about. The people that reviewed my Idea Napkin 1 says they think it is a good idea and my tactics are right on. What are you offering to customers? Describe the product or service (in other words, how you'l...

17A: Elevator Pitch 2

1. https://youtu.be/Kekz7-mMWRU 2. I did not get any feedback from my first video, so I had my roommates look at it and tell me what to change. They said I seemed nervous, so I decided to record myself this time. I think I was also less nervous this time because I have now been doing this assignment for most of the semester. My pitch last time was 75 seconds so this time I made it 90 seconds. I also tried to say what I think the biggest hump of this opportunity would be so people would be more aware and feel more connected. 3. I just changed these few things, maybe I will get feedback from someone from this class this time so I know what to better improve on for the next time.

My service is one that is made for individuals with disabilities. These individuals can have a disability anywhere on the spectrum and can range from different levels. She is a 20 year old girl that has a cognitive disability. She goes to Sidney Lanier school and has been attending since kindergarten. Every morning she takes the bus to school because her and her friends are on the same route. On the bus ride, they all talk freely and it is obvious that she is fueled by the people around her.  At school she has a lot of friends and together they like to work on their school work, play basketball in the gymnasium, and tell jokes to each other. All of the students enjoy the relationships that they have made and they enjoy getting to grow with a group os people. When the school day is done, she likes to go home to hangout. She likes to sing, dance, watch anime, and draw cartoons when she is in her room, so this is exactly what she does when she gets home every day. This is her way ...

16A: What's your secret sauce?

My unique human capital: Communication: I have always been able to send and receive information in an effective and efficient way. I think this attribute is unique to me because of the way I am able to link other key characteristics of myself to be presented as a well-rounded person. Integrity: I think that I have always done the right thing and have always presented strong moral principles when going about my day to day life. I think everyone can claim that they have integrity, but only a few actually have the mental and physical capability to live their life in this manner. Accountability: I think that I am easily accountable for my actions in my day to day life and how I conduct myself and the other people in my life. I think that my accountability allows me to be a good leader and it allows me to strive for better relationships that consist of responsibility and accountability. Creativity: I think that I have always looked at situations in a creative manner and a convergent m...

15A: Figuring out Buyer Behavior

Report Findings and drawing conclusions: With my opportunity being a service, it is a little difficult to find alternate evaluations. I looked at different services that people with disabilities could perform and how this would affect my opportunity. Each interview led my mind to try to be more open to different services that could help these individuals. They all said that they feel happiest when their individual needs are satisfied and their evaluation on their job is best when they feel like they are making a difference. Interview 1: The first person I interviewed was Briana. Briana is a student with a social disability and she just recently got a job at Plato's closet (yay). Briana said that when she was looking for jobs, she tried to find something that was not invasive with people and something where she had set hours. She told me that an alternate evaluation would be a different service like working in the back of a retail store or stocking shelves at a store. She told m...

13A: Reading Reflection No. 1

Most Surprising I was most surprised to found out how much Mary Kay Ash treasures her family and the relationships she has. She said that no amount of success is worth sacrificing relationships for. I think this was surprising to me because forgoing relationships and being successful are two aspects that do not usually correlate. Mary Kay Ash says that her three kids has made her into the business women she is today and their support is what has gotten her this far. Most Admirable Mary Kay Ash started her business with $5,000. Mary Kay had a dream and just went for it. This is a personality trait that is hard to come by and it is very admirable. She could have easily failed, but she decided to go full force with her idea. Mary Kay said "People are very quick to dream but slow to act," this shows her tenacity and her willingness to act on her dream. Least Admirable  I think Mary Kay seemed arrogant and this was not admirable. In the book she said that publi...

1.  Tenaciousness is a competency.  What are the behaviors that you have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course? The behaviors that I have used most are time management and creativity. With time management, it's hard to set aside a block of time to get these assignments done every week. I do the assignments in my blocks of other things I am doing, and I have to try and get these assignments done in an effective and efficient way. I have also had to develop a more creative side so I am able to do this class in the most effective way. I have had to refine my time management skills and creativity skills to be able to approach this class in the most productive way. 2. Tenaciousness is also about attitude.  Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this?  One s...

12A: Figuring out buyer behavior

Segment: The segment that I picked is people that have a direct relationship with a person with disabilities. The three people I have picked to interview is a mom with a child with disabilities, a teacher of students with disabilities, and a boy that has a cousin with disabilities. The disabilities these people have are all of differing variations and these people are all provided for in different ways. Interviews:  During my interviews, I learned that all of the people I picked have a high demand for this service. They all said that the time and place this unmet need arises is when the person with disabilities is coming out of school and needs something else to devote their time to. They all said that a coffee shop would help the individuals develop skills and attributes that would help them in the workforce in the long run. When I interviewed the teacher, she told me how they prepare the students to get into the real world, but sometimes the opportunity isn't available to th...
