9A: Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Who: So when I conducted another round of interviews, I found that there are groups of people that are outside the immediate realm that I originally thought of. These people could be best described as individuals that have no direct, personal responsibility for how these individuals with disabilities live their lives in the work sector. Two people that I interviewed were people that volunteer with the students with disabilities on campus. They both said how they interact with these students, but they don't see how there would be a direct need for them to be employed. When I mentioned opening up a coffee shop that only hired individuals with disabilities, they both said that it would be a good idea, but there would have to be a pull factor that attracted people to go to this coffee shop instead of other ones. These two people should have an unmet need but don't because they are not in direct responsibility of these individuals. They both said it is a good service idea, but ...

8A: Solving the Problem

My service has to do with people with disabilities not being able to find work as easy other others. I have a few ideas that could make this opportunity one of change.   A lot of people know that some companies promote diversity within the workplace, but that it is not enough companies to make a significant difference. Here are a few of my ideas:  A coffee shop that only hires people with disabilities to help promote a positive environment and workplace. A coffee shop is a place where people can go and lounge around. People at coffee shops are usually relaxed and would enjoy a coffee shop that promotes diversity. I believe that this would be a great idea to help individuals with disabilities find a place and feel like they are making a difference in their community. My next idea is an app that allows people to put up requests for tasks that need to be done around their house that a person with disabilities could help contribute with. This would allow for people in...

7A: Testing the Hypothesis

Individuals with disabilities finding work Opportunity: Many individuals with disabilities are not able to find work because of the assumption that they are not able to function at a certain level. The who: Individuals with disabilities The what: These individuals not being able to find a long-term job The why: These individuals deserve to not face adversity because they face challenges that other do not. Testing the who: The scope of "individuals with disabilities" that have a hard time finding work extends just to this group of people. Everyone possesses a certain trait that may lead them to be less likely to find certain work, but these individuals have a hard time finding a job in total because of who they are and the characteristics they possess.  Testing the what: The boundaries of this need are that most people with disabilities are limited to the jobs they can perform, if they are allowed to perform any at all. Most companies are not okay with individuals...

6A: Identifying Opportunities

Economic Trend: Tariff increase halted to mend relationship with China Source: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/11/us/politics/trump-counterfeit-drugs-china.html?rref=collection%2Ftimestopic%2FEconomic%20Conditions%20and%20Trends&action=click&contentCollection=timestopics&region=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=2&pgtype=collection I believe an opportunity exists here because the relationship between China and the United States is in need of mending. By the tariff being delayed, President Trump shows a forthcoming gesture because of the request by the Vice Premier of China. This shows an opportunity to mend the economic relationship between China and the United States because it shows eagerness and understanding to Chinese culture and celebration.  The prototypical customer of the opportunity would be people of both countries. Since the economic ties between China and the United States have been rocky, this opportunity could ...

4A- Forming An Opportunity Belief

I believe there is an efficiency issue with regards to people with disabilities being able to find a job. Individuals with disabilities have this unmet need because some employers believe that these individuals wouldn't be as efficient as other potential hires. As a student at the University of Florida, I have participated in a program called IFUS that helps with the cognitive and physical function of students with disabilities. This program aims to help these students have a quicker transition into the workforce after college, but there is still one problem: is there a workforce that is inclusive of these individuals? Some places like Publix, Subway, and the Reggae Shack welcome these individuals, but other companies are still under the impression that they do not need a diverse work place. This need is getting met in some places, which is allowing these individuals to continue to try and find different companies that would employ them. Being able to witness students with disabili...

3A-Your Entrepreneurship Story

Image
Two years ago, one of my high school friends from home decided that she was going to start her own online clothing boutique. She was entering her junior year as a fashion merchandizing major and she thought she needed an opportunity that would help her stand out when applying for jobs in a few years. She decided that she would name this business “pops of pink” and it would have trendy pieces for college aged girls. This experience was something that was really eye opening to me. Over the last two years, she has made a solid profit and continues to grow a following. This is an entrepreneurial experience that I will continue to see first-hand and see how she decides to expand in the next few years. As an accounting major, I have only thought about being entrepreneurial in the private accounting realm and did not think about how you can create anything as an entrepreneur. Initially, I enrolled in ENT3003 because I needed one more class to hit Bright Futures before I get i...
