8A: Solving the Problem

  • My service has to do with people with disabilities not being able to find work as easy other others. I have a few ideas that could make this opportunity one of change.
  • A lot of people know that some companies promote diversity within the workplace, but that it is not enough companies to make a significant difference.
    • Here are a few of my ideas:
      1.  A coffee shop that only hires people with disabilities to help promote a positive environment and workplace. A coffee shop is a place where people can go and lounge around. People at coffee shops are usually relaxed and would enjoy a coffee shop that promotes diversity. I believe that this would be a great idea to help individuals with disabilities find a place and feel like they are making a difference in their community.
      2. My next idea is an app that allows people to put up requests for tasks that need to be done around their house that a person with disabilities could help contribute with. This would allow for people in the community to get small tasks done while also employing people that need work. I believe this would also be a smart idea because these tasks would probably be of short duration which wouldn't be too taxing on these individuals.
  • I want a service that would help promote inclusion and would also help spread the word about this opportunity for people with disabilities. These two ideas could help pave the path for people with disabilities and how they are going to transition for school to work.

  1. Hey Logan,

Great ideas! I love the coffeeshop idea as the environment is usually more relaxed and it could also be a place for socializing. The common folks could see how disabled people can perfectly co-exist with us.

However, have you considered training/re-training persons of disabilities so that they could perform jobs with higher complexities? For example, a person who aren't able to walk could perform desk jobs, such as software engineering.

  2. The ideas you proposed offer good solutions to your hypothesis, for the second solution though most people with disabilities cant drive around they need someone to drive them to the location they'd have to service. People would have to pay for the driver and the person with a disability to do the job they need to get done. So hiring somebody with a disability would cost more than just doing it yourself or hiring someone without a disability.
